Kansas City Aviation Department (KCAD)

The Kansas City Aviation Department owns and operates Kansas City International Airport and Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport. The department is an enterprise fund department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and is supported wholly by airport user charges.

GPW was part of an AE Team awarded an On-Call Contract to complete projects at the Kansas City International Airport. Projects comprised of remodels and ground up ancillary facilities surrounding the airport. Examples of projects were:

  1. The Sand/De-Icer Facility consisted of a complete Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design for the new facility.
  2. Building 125 Paris project involved the expansion and renovations to the existing Aviation Fleet Maintenance 30 plus year old facility at KCI.
  3. The North Equipment Storage Building project consisted of a complete Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design. The facility serves as the primary storage building for the airports snow removal equipment and other large maintenance vehicles.
  4. Replacement of the Access Control System (ACS) at both the KCI Airport and the Downtown Wheeler Airport. The scope of work was to provide a planning document that is sufficiently flexible to also accommodate imminent regulatory changes anticipated from the TSA and Homeland Security Administration.
