The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is one of the most technically and architecturally advanced performing arts centers in the nation. The Kauffman Center covers 13 acres, including landscaped grounds over the 1,000-space, city-owned Arts District Garage. The garage provides covered parking for Kauffman Center attendees, with entrances on 17th Street and Wyandotte Street
GPW & Associates performed the electrical engineering services for the 365,000 sq. ft. parking garage. The garage consists of four levels of parking with an additional plaza level on top of the garage. This is no ordinary parking garage as it is considered the entrance to this new state-of-the-art building. The structure was built into a terraced limestone hillside to the south of the performing arts center, making it invisible from both the symphony hall and the ballet hall. The scope of work included, electrical systems, lighting, fire alarm, security and access control and connectivity of garage security system to offsite monitoring. The project also included new street lighting along 17th street.
